The world revolves around the principle of duality in order for us to understand and appreciate everything in life. We need darkness to value light. We need the bad to appreciate the good. We need snow to cherish the sunshine. Essentially, everything that exists in this world has two sides that balance each other, and that’s why they coexist—to complement one another.
Without night, we can’t appreciate the morning. Without the presence of others, we can’t truly value our own company. Without sadness, we can’t understand or appreciate happiness. These things coexist to make us realize their importance. Everything in life has two sides. As we know, difficult moments teach us humility and strength, while an easy life can make us complacent and stagnant.
To be in love can make us attached and dependent, while being detached can help us live peacefully and contentedly. Things we achieve quickly are often not appreciated or don’t last, whereas the things that take time are valued more and tend to endure.
Think about any aspect of life, and you’ll realize how this world is shaped by duality in everything we experience. We may need someone to break our heart to truly appreciate those who love us. We need a Raavan to remember Ram as a hero and to have the story of the Ramayana.
So, move beyond the rigid ideas of right and wrong, and try to see the bigger picture—the lesson that life is teaching you through the lens of duality.
